We believe people should reap the benefits of using greener energy and helping the Texas grid. That’s why we created Intelligent Octopus: the smart home feature for thermostats and electric vehicles giving customers one of the cheapest energy rates right now. Intelligent Octopus may not be for everyone, but Texans can still benefit from using cleaner, greener energy.
We need your help spreading the word about Octopus Energy so we’re doubling your friends’ referral rewards if they sign up with Intelligent Octopus and throwing in some serious cash for you to win!
How does Bestie Bonus Bash work?
- From June 17th to July 31st, refer as many friends as you can.
- Any Octopus Energy customer is automatically added to the competition. No action needed!
- First place wins $500, second place wins $400, and third place wins $300. Spot prizes: Five random participants will win $50 each.
- The winners will be announced on August 6th. We’ll reach out to winners directly over phone and email.
How do I play?
- Share your Octopus referral link to all your friends and family- throw it around like confetti.
- Every time someone signs up using your link, you’ll get one point added on the leaderboard.
- You’ll get a point when your friend connects to Intelligent Octopus, and they’ll get an extra $50! You’ll also get a point for each device they connect
- You can also snag another point when you enroll in Intelligent Octopus.
- The competition closes on July 31st. On August 6th, we’ll calculate your final referral points tally. It’ll only include customers who’ve fully switched to us and are currently on supply. For those who’ve signed up for an Intelligent Octopus plan will need to have their device connected.
Note: For both parties to receive their referral credits, the referring customer must be on supply for 30 days and paid their first bill.
How do friends join Octopus Energy through my link?
Here’s what they have to do:
- Have your friend follow your referral link to switch to Octopus Energy.
- To get an extra point, make sure they choose one of our Intelligent Octopus plans at signup.
- If switching to an Intelligent Octopus plan, they’ll need to connect their EV or smart thermostat through our app to unlock smart optimization and the super cheap energy rate.
- That’s it! Both your referral rewards will be credited to your Octopus accounts.
How will I know how I’m doing?
You can check where you rank on the leaderboard on the contest dashboard or in your account. You can access your dashboard by clicking the Bestie Bonus Bash banner displayed at the top of your Octopus Energy online portal.
You must be logged in to access your Bestie Bonus Bash dashboard. Your unique identifier will be your referral code, which can be found in the account details in your Octopus Energy app or online portal.

How does Intelligent Octopus work?
To use the Intelligent Octopus feature, you need either…
- An EV made by Audi, Mini, Hyundai, Tesla, Ford, Porsche, Jaguar, or VW.
- A smart thermostat made by Amazon, ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell, or Sensi.

When do we get our referral rewards?
After your friend switches over and makes their first payment, you’ll both get your $50 referral reward credited to your Octopus accounts.
Your friend will get their extra $50 once they connect to Intelligent Octopus in the Octopus app.
What could I win?
You could win up to $500 to take home if you manage to snag more referrals than anyone else. Here’s a breakdown of what you could win:
First place: $500
Second place: $400
Third place: $300
We’ll also select a random five participants to win $50 so everyone has a chance to win something
How do I get entries in the draw to win a cash prize?
You’ll get one entry in the prize draw when you refer a friend to Octopus Energy, and another entry when your friend turns on our Intelligent Octopus feature in the Octopus app. You’ll also receive a point for every device your friend connects.
Example: Your friend connects three thermostats to Intelligent Octopus, you’ll get three points!
You can also unlock another point plus massive savings on your energy bill when you connect to Intelligent Octopus.
When will the prize draw take place?
On July 31st, the competition ends. On August 6th, we’ll add up all the referral points and entries in the prize pool. Then, we’ll pick one name from the prize draw, and confirm the overall leaderboard winner top referrer, and announce both winners soon after on social media.
