A time-of-use (TOU) energy plan charges different rates depending on the time of day. Instead of a flat price per kilowatt-hour, your rate changes based on energy demand. Your energy plan will detail when your peak and off-peak hours are.

As a reward, you'll get a fixed credit for every month. How much you get paid depends on the size of your system, but you can expect $15 for every five kilowatt hours of storage.
