What’s OctopusFlex?
OctopusFlex is a time-of-use rate designed to give you the lowest possible energy rates. Every day, you'll find the discounted power during off-peak hours (10 PM-6 AM). On top of that, you’ll get even cheaper off-peak and on-peak rates during the spring and fall, when energy is typically less expensive and more green.
OctopusFlex rewards you for shifting your energy usage, like doing the laundry or charging your EV, to the cheapest times by giving you cheaper rates. With OctopusFlex, you save money and support a more efficient and sustainable energy grid.

OctopusFlex FAQ
Octopus Flex is a time-of-use electricity plan that gives you different rates depending on when you use energy. You’ll pay less during off-peak hours and more during on-peak times- so the more you shift, the more you save.
By doing energy-heavy chores like laundry, dishwashing, or EV charging outside of peak hours, you can take advantage of lower rates and shrink your monthly bill.
It only takes about two minutes. If you’re already with Octopus Energy, just log into your account and switch to the Flex plan. If you’re new, select “Octopus Flex” during signup and follow the flow- you'll be flexing your way to savings in no time.
Focus on high-energy items like your dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, oven, HVAC, pool equipment, water heater, or EV charger. Even small actions, like powering down lights and unused tech, help tip the scale.
There can be. If you use most of your electricity during peak hours, you might pay more than on a flat-rate plan. But with just a few small habit changes, it’s easy to flip that into serious savings.
Not at the moment. This plan is built for homes without solar or battery systems. But don’t worry — we’ve got something better for you: Intelligent Octopus for Home Batteries, which pays $4/kWh of storage per month- the best deal in Texas!
We base those times on when we can buy power for you most affordably. While we’d love to shorten On-Peak hours in the future, the current schedule reflects the most cost-effective balance for now.
We looked at ERCOT’s average monthly prices. Months like July and August (when demand and prices are high) fall into High Season. Months like March and April, when wind and solar are plentiful and demand is low, are Low Season- so you get lower rates.
We estimate the average cost for a typical customer by combining the different rate bands (On-Peak vs. Off-Peak, High vs. Low Season). It’s a weighted average based on typical usage patterns.
Example: If On-Peak = 10¢/kWh, Off-Peak = 5¢/kWh, and 80% of usage is On-Peak, then the average rate would be 9¢/kWh.
Because your real usage might not match the average customer profile. If you use more energy during Off-Peak hours, you’ll likely pay less than what’s shown on your EFL. The more you shift, the more you save.
