Octopus Energy Help & FAQs

Credit Card Payments

Beginning May 1, 2026, a 2% processing fee will be added to credit card payments. At Octopus, transparency is at the core of everything we do, so we want to explain exactly why this change is happening. When a credit card is used to pay a bill, banks charge a processing fee to the company receiving the payment. Up until now, Octopus has been covering those fees on behalf of our customers. To continue offering fair and competitive energy rates, we’ll now apply a 2% fee to payments using a credit card. For example, on a $180 bill, a 2% fee would be $3.60 - less than a cup of coffee! If you’d prefer to avoid the fee entirely, you can simply switch to ACH (bank account) payments, which have no processing fee. It only takes a minute to update your payment method in your Octopus account through the web portal or the app.
